School Lunch

One of my favorite things to do is make a lunch for Olivia.  It’s my way of showing her love while she’s at school.  I’ve found lots of inspiration from Catherine McCords book Weelicious: 140 Fast, Fresh and Easy Meals.  We also happen to use the same FANTASTIC lunch box for our kids meals.  They are from Planet Box and I get mine at Pottery Barn for kids.

Although she ended up having to stay home today, Olivia’s lunch was a bento bear egg (this photo does no justice, I love bento products!), gluten free flax crackers, herb salad mix with flower carrots and cucumbers (cut with vegetable cutters like these), raisins, spiced chickpeas (she didn’t like them, but I’m always trying new things), and leftover Strawberry Almond Meal Cake with added blueberries.

What do you like to make your children?  Do they have food allergens that limit you?

  1. My daughter really doesn’t love dairy, and neither do I, although my son loves it. We do a lot of raw veggies with hummus or white bean dips. I love the Weelicious cookbook! Great ideas for the whole family in there :-)

  2. Cute lunchbox!

    My children love sushi, which is great because it’s like pizza that still tastes good when cold (not that pizza doesn’t taste good when cold – I made it through college on cold pizza). What I like about sushi (and pizza) is that you can load it up with all the major food groups so my kids can get all their daily nutrients in one go. (The same goes for their breakfast smoothies, but those aren’t for the lunchbox.)

  3. I am going to send lunches with my daughter starting next week. She is a pretty picky eater, and has some fine motor issues (opening containers, etc) but we are hopeful that is will be successful!
